All atmosphere control systems use zirconia based oxygen sensors to measure atmosphere conditions in the furnace. Probes are generating milivolt signals proportional to oxygen content in the atmosphere. If required, probe can contain a thermocouple for accurate temperature reading. All systems include a "Probe Care Box" or "Reference/Cleaning Air Cabinet" added to oxygen probe. From this panel, continuous referance air and necessary probe cleaning air is supplied. Flow from the pump can be adjusted through the flowmeter and buttons in front of the panel. Probe cleaning can be done automatically during heat treatment or manually using buttons of control system. Since probes have a certain service life, which depends on the use and atmosphere conditions, they should be replaced periodically.
